Making Complex Information Accessible for All with RAG (retrieval augmented generation)
We all know it, you have to fill in some official documents and all of a sudden you doubt if you understood the text well enough. Even retrieving more information does not always provide an answer is clear and accessible language. But what about when you're low literate? Then tasks such as filling in forms, reading official letters or doing your taxes becomes even more difficult. In the Netherlands alone about 18% of the population that is 16 years old or older has some form of low literacy. According to Stichting lezen en schrijven these people experience huge difficulties in, for example understanding texts and filling in forms. Note low literacy people can read and write, but it is difficult for them to participate fully in society. This affects their lives in a multitude of ways, it is more difficult to get (and maintain a job) but also arranging finances etc. is a hurdle. We think AI (and especially Large Language Models) can help making information more accessible to people. During this workshop we will dive into the topic of Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and how we can utilize this technique to make large and difficult documents more comprehensible. Together with you we want to explore the opportunities and possible pitfalls of RAG in a hands on manner. Furthermore, we will share some tips and tricks on how to improve your RAG. Are you a data science / AI / software enthusiast that has some experience in python? And would you like to use your skills to see if we can help people (and ourselves) with difficult text? Join us at this hands on workshop!
