Why tech needs children's books
Early in my career I developed a curious yet effective habit of understanding complex technical concepts by likening them to children's stories, like understanding how a SYN flood exploits a standard TCP 3-way handshake by way of Harry Potter (using the analogy of Hogwarts letters flooding Uncle Vernon's house). It sparked an idea, which led to me writing a series of children's books featuring Botbot - a female hero who lives in the heart of the tech ecosystem. "What makes a bot go bad?" Botbot asks - and we must also consider what drives us to destroy, rather than create. I'll talk about the role children's literature plays in the tech ecosystem and how we can (and should) harness the medium to build a more diverse tech industry.
