How do young entrepreneurs develop their network?
While starting your own business has become more and more popular by students at bachelor or master level, and universities have developed venture creation programs to guide students through the process of starting their own business, student entrepreneurs have to start with activating their own social network in these cases, and build the social capital of the firm from scratch, often with the help of the network of the university, family and friends. For students in general, research suggests that good contacts (i.e. a high level of social capital) are helpful in obtaining jobs, getting promoted and having a successful career. Students who want to start their own business have to realize that connections to others can be crucial for the success of their endeavor to create a sustainable company. How student entrepreneurs make use of their social network and how they develop it over time in favour of their company is a topic I specialized in. During this session I want to share some of my insights.
